Why Investing in Your Holistic Health Is the Best Decision You’ll Ever Make
So, we all know that life’s a lot. There’s always something pulling at your time, your energy, your nervous system. Between work, family, and the never-ending to-do list, it’s way too easy to put your health on the back burner (been there—once juggled three jobs and full-time undergrad… not my smartest move).
But here’s what I’ve learned the hard way: when you finally start investing in your whole health—mind, body, emotions, and spirit—everything else starts to click into place. You’re more energized. More balanced. Less easily knocked over by life’s curveballs.
And the best part? It doesn’t require a complete overhaul. Small, consistent shifts in how you care for yourself ripple out into every corner of your life.
Let’s dig in.

🌿 So… What Is Holistic Health?
Holistic health is about treating yourself like the complex, layered, beautifully interconnected being you are—not just a body, or a brain, or a list of symptoms. But you don’t need to make changes all at once or go throwing out your whole skincare routine to start over from scratch. This is holistic health naturally, slowly, and intentionally. It’s not about obsessing over green juice or living at the gym either. It’s about seeing the full picture and making small changes that make sense for you, in your own time, and with your own resources you currently have.
I’m going to say this again: your thoughts, your emotions, your physical body, your energy, your habits, your spirit… it’s all connected! Like, so interconnected that when your bloated, you may even also feel decision-fatigue or brain fog.
SO, when one part is out of sync, it affects the whole system. Holistic health attempts to keep everything in balance as much as possible to keep all the pieces happy.
1. The Ultimate Self-Care: Not Optional, Babe
Let’s clear this up: self-care isn’t a bubble bath and a face mask once a quarter. It’s daily maintenance. It’s fuel. It’s survival. Holistic health means putting your own care first. It means small, daily rituals like eating healthy, drinking water, and doing a hobby you love. I used to think that if I could just save my self-care tasks for the weekend that I’d be set. But really, I was back pedaling my health by neglecting it all week.
Real self-care means checking in with your body, respecting your capacity, and giving yourself what you actually need—not what Instagram says is trendy. Have you seen those “My Morning De-Shedding Routine” videos? Yeah, that’s what I’m pointing out as highly unrealistic and even unnecessary for most of us. Some days it’s a smoothie and sunshine. Other days, it’s boundaries and a nap. In the past, I thought that there was no time to get in some self-care between work and sleep and school. The reality is that self-care can be small and still reap major benefits.
🌀 Try this:
- Start your day with a 2-minute stretch or stillness.
- Swap one processed snack for something colorful and alive.
- Unplug for 15 minutes and let your brain breathe.
Little things = big shifts.

2. Physical Health: Your Foundation (Not a Punishment)
Here’s an analogy I’ve heard before. You start with a full cup. As your day goes on, you cups starts to empty. It’s emptying while you drive your kids to sports practice, sit in commute traffic, and all those things that are not necessarily for you. To replenish your cup, you need to eat, smile, laugh, exercise, and so on. If you don’t do these things, you can’t pour from an empty cup—and if your body is running on fumes, everything else feels harder. Physical health isn’t about burning calories or wearing a size anything. It’s about creating a body that feels good to live in.
Your body deserves:
- Movement that feels like medicine, not punishment
- Nourishment that energizes you (without rigid food rules)
- Sleep that actually restores you (your phone can wait)
These refill your cup. Think of a few more things that help fill your cup and drop them in the comment section below to help others!
And yes, a 30-minute walk totally counts. No bootcamp required.

3. Mental Health: Let’s Talk About It
If your brain feels like it’s constantly buffering and always going, you’re not alone. I’m one of those people who finally get into bed after a long day and while my body is dog-tired, my brain keeps doing burnouts on the county road. So, I suppose I’m still working on that piece, but hey, that’s what holistic health is. Taking small steps to reach your ultimate goals for long-term health without judgment. In short, mental health is health, period. And in a world full of noise, stress, and overstimulation, protecting your peace is revolutionary. Honestly, protect your peace so much that you’re doing exactly what you want to do on the weekends, every weekend (of course, holidays with family may be the exception).
Tools I swear by:
- Mindfulness (even if it’s just one intentional breath before replying to that text)
- Journaling (aka brain-dumping the chaos onto paper)
- Therapy (because healing isn’t a DIY project)
You don’t need to be in crisis to care for your mind. You just need to be human. However, if you are in crisis, please call 988 or reach out to your local county’s crisis hotline number.

4. Emotional Health: Feel It to Free It
Emotions aren’t a problem to fix—they’re messengers. And part of holistic health is learning to listen instead of suppress. I always feel so much lighter when I actually address the emotions that I feel in the moment versus ignoring them and stuffing them down. Not only that, but it’s always harder to stay present later when I’m thinking about the emotion rather than working through it. Like when you feel angry? How often do you actually feel the emotion and channel it out of you rather than ignoring it and then thinking about the anger later that night or even days after?
So, got feelings? Good. That means your emotional body is alive and working. Emotions are powerful tools to help us navigate what is affecting us physically and mentally. Your emotion is saying, “Hey! I’m trying to tell you something!” When you tune into your emotion, your usually able to identify the cause of the emotion pretty quickly.
But now the question is: how do you support that?
💡 Tip:
- Speak to yourself like someone you like.
- Keep a gratitude log for the little wins.
- Say no. Full stop. Without guilt.
When you tend to your emotional world, you show up with more presence, peace, and perspective.
5. Spiritual Health: Connecting to Something Bigger
Spirituality doesn’t have to mean religion (though it can). It can mean slowing down long enough to feel connected—whether that’s through prayer, presence, nature, or purpose. I love to be in nature and feel the wind and hear the birds. I know that sounds a little hippy-ish, but that’s what does it for me!
Ways to nourish your spiritual side:
- Walk barefoot in nature. Let the ground hold you
- Light a candle and sit in silence (No, really. Try it)
- Reflect on your “why”—what makes your life feel meaningful?
When you tend to your spirit, you build resilience from the inside out. It grounds you to something deeper, giving you a purpose beyond yourself, and your work. It can be comforting and fulfilling without extra soul-searching (did that rhyme?).

6. The Ripple Effect: How Holistic Health Touches Everything
Going back to the beginning message of this post: taking care of your whole self isn’t selfish—it’s your secret weapon. When you put your holistic health first, you will start to changes in every aspect of your life. I remember my first real attempt at eating healthier, and now I feel happier, have more energy, and think more clearly. That’s just one example!
Here’s what happens when you’re thriving and not just surviving:
✨ You show up better in relationships.
✨ You focus better.
✨ You handle stress with more grace.
✨ You laugh more, sleep deeper, connect stronger.
✨ You become the version of you that feels most like you.
And honestly? That’s the whole point. 🙂
7. This Is a Journey—Not a Race
Holistic health isn’t a 30-day challenge (but if you want to try my 30-day challenge, you might just find some inspiration). It’s a relationship. There will be high-vibe days and off-the-rails days. You’re allowed both. And holistic health is not something to hop on and off of. It’s intentional and daily. I know that sounds intimidating, but it’s not meant to be. Start small, make choices that align with you and your ability today, not in one year.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s alignment.
Start where you are. Do what you can. And know that every small, intentional act of care is building the life you actually want to live.
Winding Down: Your Health Is the Most Underrated Form of Wealth
Listen—your health is your home. The longer you wait to care for it, the more expensive it becomes—energetically, emotionally, and physically.
So, start now! With a breath. With a walk. With a glass of water. With a single shift toward balance.
Your body will notice. Your mind will soften. And your future self?
Your future self will thank you.
